Number of the Day: 5

August 13, 2012 | Number of The Day

July was the hottest on record nationally, causing droughts and storms, but here in New Jersey last month only clocked in at number 5
in the list of warmest Julys since 1895. It had an average temperature of 78 degrees. Still, it does fit a recent pattern as July 2011 and 2010 were second and third on that list, respectively.

What’s more, the first seven months of 2012 have so far made it the hottest such period on record. Despite memorable storms, state climatologist Dr. David Robinson said the year has also been quite dry, as the first seven months rank as the 13th driest on record.
