It’s become a twice-yearly ritual in New Jersey, applicants lining up to open charter schools in the state. This week, 32 organizations of all stripes filed bids with the state Department of Education to open the alternative schools in 2013. They were from a mix of urban and suburban settings, some specializing in the arts and sciences, others focusing on the broader educational choice they provide students. The Christie administration has been stingy of late in its charter approvals, and several were making repeat appearances, include one in Montclair making its sixth try. The state is to decide their fate by September.
