Gov. Christie was among the 1000 mourners at the funeral of Republican Assemblyman Alex Decroce.

At St. Peter the Apostle Church in Parsippany, more than 1,000 mourners attended the funeral for Republican Assemblyman Alex Decroce Friday. Gov. Chris Christie and First Lady Mary Pat Christie escorted Assemblyman Alex DeCroce’s widow into the church.

DeCroce collapsed and died at the Statehouse late Monday after the lame-duck legislative had session ended. According to state police, the death of the 75-year-old was heart-related.

Instead of delivering the State of the State address scheduled the next day, Christie remembered DeCroce whom he had known for 20 years in a eulogy at the State House.

DeCroce had represented parts of Morris and Passaic County since 1989. DeCroce became minority leader in the Assembly in 2003.

DeCroce will be buried at Gate of the Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
