This long weekend might be the perfect time to start planting some fruits and vegetables to enjoy later in the season — particularly since today is Earth Day. But here in the Garden State, those without a green thumb or who live in apartments can still enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables direct from the farm. That’s because there are 140 community farmer’s markets scattered throughout the state, according to smart growth consultancy New Jersey Future.
New Jersey Future says the trend toward buying seasonal, local produce is on the rise, and will likely continue as oil prices rise, which increases the cost of transporting food over long distances.
