March 24, 2011 | Number of The Day

As of February 28, some 8,688 New Jersey homes and businesses have installed solar electric systems, making the Garden State second only to California in the number of solar systems it has deployed. With a lucrative program using solar renewable energy certificates (SRECs) and federal tax credits, the state is installing more than 200 megawatts of new solar capacity each month. New Jersey has one of the most aggressive solar goals in the nation, with a target of generating enough solar electricity to equal the output of five nuclear power plants.
