New Jersey has a serious doctor shortage, particularly in the southern part of the state, which isn’t helped by the fact that the number of medical school graduates is not large. What’s more, many of them choose to set up practice out of state. Last year, there were 319 medical school graduates in New Jersey, according to contrasts to 16,836 medical school graduates in the country as a whole.

Of New Jersey’s newly graduated doctors, 135 are white, 122 are Asian, 32 are black and 28 are Hispanic. Nationally, the racial breakdown is 10,667 white, 3,505 Asian, 1,256 Hispanic and 1,137 black.
