CJR takes an up-close look at NJ Spotlight, “Trenton’s State House Startup,” detailing its role in delivering public-policy news in context. The attempt could have been “brutal,” says founding editor John Mooney, except that he and co-founder Tom Johnson had the contacts and credibility to be taken seriously right out of the gate. Mooney and Johnson have something else in their favor: almost forty years experience between the two of them.
