John Mooney | May 13, 2010

There are 67 charter schools in New Jersey, serving approximately 22,000 students. Nine more are in line to open their doors in September, according to the NJ Department of Education. One school was closed by the state this year. In March, the Department of Education received 37 applications for new charter schools, eight of which have been disqualified. That compares to 27 applications received in 2009, and 25 proposals in 2008.
