Menendez Bribery Trial: Day Four Is All About the Visas
Not all plain sailing for prosecutors when they put two reputed girlfriends of senator’s co-accused on the stand
Prosecutors in the corruption trial of Sen. Bob Menendez and Salomon Melgen, a wealthy Florida eye doctor and significant donor to the New Jersey politician, had mixed results yesterday when they put two of Melgen’s reputed former girlfriends on the witness stand. The prosecution's goal was link Menendez’s efforts to smooth the women's visa applications in the context of a larger bribery scheme. Menendez is charged with accepting bribes from Melgen in the form of Caribbean vacations and flights on Melgen’s private plane.
