Ciattarelli Tells Brian Lehrer Show He’s an ‘Eisenhower Republican’
Guadagno’s main rival among Republicans for governor said NJ economy has to be main focus
Jack Ciattarelli, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno’s main challenger to become the Republican Party’s candidate for governor, describes himself as “an Eisenhower Republican.”
The state Assemblyman, who represents central Jersey’s 16th District, spoke on WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show yesterday as part of its series of interviews with all of New Jersey’s gubernatorial candidates.
“Eisenhower was famous for saying ‘You elect me to run your government, not your life,’” Ciattarelli said. “Given the fiscal and economic crisis of the day — and as much financial insecurity that people feel — what they want us as policy makers to focus on is how to make the economy better, and that’s particularly the case in New Jersey.”
Ciattarelli said the Garden State is “dead last in economic growth and number one in outmigration … We need to make people feel as though they can achieve the American Dream here again in New Jersey.”
