Mark Zinna

PR17-zinna

Zinna is president of the Tenafly Borough Council. He owns an Englewood data management business.

Born in the Bronx in 1960, Zinna moved with his family to Bergen County four years later. He left high school before graduating to earn money by working at a steel recycling plant in Hackensack. Zinna completed his high school equivalency diploma and continued working.

Later, he took a customer service job at Merrill Corp., eventually working his way to vice president. While there, he went to college at the State University of New York at Albany, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and history.

He has held a number of other jobs, among them consulting for multinational technology firms and owning a busy Brooklyn pizzeria. His interest in politics has been constant: He attended the 1980 Democratic National Convention and ran unsuccessfully for the New York Assembly in 1988.

Married with four children, Zinna was elected to the Tenafly Borough Council on the third try in 2011 and won re-election. As president of the council, he has focused on building affordable housing and assisted-living facilities, addressing inequitable regulation, and encouraging smart development to ease the cost of property taxes.
