ACA Repeal & Replace: New Jersey's Response

On the day of the vote that wasn't, experts came together to discuss the issues at an NJ Spotlight Roundtable

On March 24, 2017, as Washington played will-they-or-won't-they with the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, NJ Spotlight hosted a conference on what New Jersey's response would be. While in the end the bill died without a vote, the issues discussed that day continue to resonate as lawmakers and experts consider the ramifications of healthcare reform in America.

In the opening session, Congressman Frank Pallone sent in a video explaining his thoughts on the Republican proposal. Afterwards, NJ Spotlight healthcare writer Lilo H. Stainton and Princeton University's Heather Howard discussed the politics of the situation, and took questions from the audience.

Panel I: The ACA and Medicaid: Protecting Vulnerable Residents

Panelists discussed how the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion extended government coverage to nearly 500,000 New Jersey residents. Discussion included how a repeal would affect these patients and the healthcare providers who care for them. Panelists also explored what options, including federal block grants, exist to cover them.

Panelists:

Maura Collinsgru, healthcare program director, Citizen Action

Heather Howard, Princeton University

Matt D'Oria, Medicaid 2.0 chief transformation officer,
