North Brunswick Residents Still Waiting for NJ Transit Train Station

The governor authorized construction of the station in 2013, but the project seems to have run completely off the rails

Commuters in North Brunswick are used to waiting: Not for New Jersey Transit trains, but for an NJ Transit train station.

In 2013, the governor said he was proud to authorize construction of New Jersey Transit’s rail station in North Brunswick and told folks here it was an “investment in you, your town and your neighbors.”

Houses were built. Big-box stores opened. And still no station.

According to New Jersey Transit and others, the project became less of a priority because of more pressing needs and it was not in the agency’s capital plan.

That did not sit well with transportation advocate Martin Robins. “(New Jersey Transit) said five to seven years before it really made the capital plan. So, it’s quite a ways off,” he commented.

Karen Brady Eckman, a Middlesex County resident, took a more philosophical view.

“It’s all dug up, but it might not happen in my lifetime. I really don’t see it happening,” she said.
