New Jerseyans oppose the expansion of casino gambling to North Jersey by a wide margin, according to the most recent FDU PublicMind poll, with 70 percent against the idea and 24 percent in favor. Voters will be asked to decide the issue when they go to the polls in November.

Opposition to the constitutional amendment, which would allow two casinos to be built in North Jersey, even comes from those who have visited a casino in recent months. Sixty-four percent of those respondents also were opposed to casino expansion.

The two reasons people most cited for their opposition: a belief that the state already had too many casinos (36 percent) and concern for the health of Atlantic City (26 percent.) Women were more opposed than men, and Democrats and independents slightly more against the amendment than Republicans.
