Elections 2016: Congressional District 2
New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District covers Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, and Salem counties, as well as parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Ocean. Republican Rep. Frank LoBiando has represented the district since 1995. The Democrat is David Cole, of Sewell. It also is one of two New Jersey races that have five independent candidates, making them the most crowded fields this year. The independents are Eric Beechwood of Dorchester, Steven Fenichel of Ocean City, Gabriel Brian Franco of Little Egg Harbor, James Keenan of Woodstown, and Libertarian John Ordille of Northfield. This district, which was blue until longtime Rep. William Hughes retired, is something of an anomaly. About a quarter of voters are registered Republicans, but slightly more are registered as Democrats. The district chose President Obama in 2012 and 2008, but also reelected LoBiondo.
