Jersey City Mayor Heads to Atlantic City to Talk Gaming, Casinos
Mayor Fulop has long had an interest in bringing gambling to north Jersey and, more specifically, to Jersey City
What better place to talk gaming than Atlantic City, and that’s exactly what Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop did on his visit to the troubled resort and gambling meccca.
More specifically, Fulop wanted to get a better sense of how bringing casinos north would benefit that part of the state and possibly harm the southern city and its environs.
“What I found is I try to balance what’s in Jersey City’s best interest, what’s in North Jersey’s best interest. I’m obviously conscious of the impact to Atlantic City,” he said.
According to Atlantic City Council President Marty Small, “It was very important he (Fulop) heard first hand because who better, in the state of New Jersey, to talk about gaming than Atlantic City? We currently have a monopoly and hopefully that will continue.”
