Now that Gov. Chris Christie is safely back in the Garden State, the question is, “Does anybody care?” The latest Rutgers-Eagleton poll offers some insight on that score, reporting that 36 percent of voters think Christie’s return is good for New Jersey, while 27 percent think it will have a negative effect. And 37 percent of surveyed voters think having Christie back in Trenton will have no impact at all.

The poll, which was taken after Christie’s February 16 budget address, found that 32 percent approve of how the governor is handling the budget, up seven percent from his all-time low in December. But 55 percent disapprove.

Christie does even worse when it comes to taxes: 28 percent approve of his performance, up five points from December, while 64 percent continue to disapprove (down seven points). Of those surveyed, 27 percent say taxes are the top problem facing New Jersey.
