It’s not just gas costs that are falling; electricity costs to consumers are also on the decline. PSEG announced Tuesday that asurcharge, which had been applied to electricity bills since the 1999 deregulation of the industry, had been eliminated. That’s the second time this year that a deregulation surcharge has dropped off the consumer bill for a total of 6.3 percent in 2015.
PSEG estimates that the average customer should save about $85 this year due to the elimination of the surcharge. The utility expects additional deregulation-related charges to expire in 2016.
