It’s not just gas costs that are falling; electricity costs to consumers are also on the decline. PSEG announced Tuesday that a 3.9 percent surcharge, which had been applied to electricity bills since the 1999 deregulation of the industry, had been eliminated. That’s the second time this year that a deregulation surcharge has dropped off the consumer bill for a total of 6.3 percent in 2015.

PSEG estimates that the average customer should save about $85 this year due to the elimination of the surcharge. The utility expects additional deregulation-related charges to expire in 2016.
