Rutgers University now has 65,000 students and 20,000 faculty and staff after the 2013 merger with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The goal was to create a major research institution, and it seems like that goal may be well on its way to accomplishment: Rutgers garnered $612 million in research grants in 2015 and $517 million in 2014. That’s up from $361.4 million in 2013. The university is now among the top 30 in terms of research funding, according to a release from Senate President Stephen Sweeney.

The Senate Democrats also touted that the Rutgers School of Nursing has recently been ranked among the top 25 schools, up from 79 in 2011.
