It pays to be a smart shopper. That’s the conclusion of a new federal report that found New Jersey consumers who purchased healthcare on, the federal portal for the Affordable Care Act, saved $663 in the second year of the program just by shopping for a better deal.

The report tracked consumers who switched providers but kept the same level of coverage -- 35 percent of enrollees. These consumers saved an average of $55 a month, or $663 a year, without any loss of services. New Jersey shoppers are expected to find similar deals this year, according to federal Health and Human Service Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
