It’s hard to beat Halloween as a holiday: You dress up in a costume, go to strangers' houses, threaten them, and they give you candy. And New Jerseyans definitely know how to keep the spirit of the day -- and night. A new report from WalletHub, the personal finances website, ranked Jersey City No. 2 on its list of Best Cities for Halloween. Newark was one step behind, in the third spot.

What constitutes a best city for Halloween -- besides a sizable population of witches, warlocks, and vampires? WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across three key dimensions: safety and surroundings, parties and activities, and Halloween weather. Those three groups were further divided into 16 key metrics, including the number of costume stores per capita, number of candy stores per capita, acres of land under pumpkin harvest, and average cost of a Halloween party ticket.

Jersey City racked up a total of 59.85 points (out of 100); Newark, 58.54.

If you plan on traveling over the Halloween weekend, do not route your trip through Detroit, Memphis, or St. Petersburg, FL -- judged to be the three worst Halloween cities. Aren’t you glad you live in Jersey?
