Voter Guide 2015: District 1

New Jersey's 1st Legislative District is the southernmost district in the state, covering Cape May and parts of Atlantic (Corbin, Estell Manor and Weymouth) and Cumberland (Commercial, Downe, Fairfield, Greenwich, Hopewell, Lawrence, Maurice River, Millville, Shiloh, Stow Creek and Vineland) counties.

It is one of the few districts where some of the lawmakers are not members of the party in the majority. Most voters in the district are unaffiliated, but of those registered, Republicans outnumber Democrats -- there were about 6,000 more Republicans than Democrats as of Oct. 1.

The district is one of the rare ones in New Jersey that has split representation, with the GOP taking one of the seats in 2013: Assemblyman Bob Andrzejczak, a former Army sergeant, is a Democrat, and Assemblyman Samuel L. Fiocchi is a Republican. Andrzejczak and R. Bruce Land are the Democrats on the ballot; Fiocchi's running mate is Jim Sauro. This is considered among the most competitive races in the state, in part because of the GOP skew.
