Chris Christie Joins the Race for The White House

Matt Katz | June 30, 2015

The pool of GOP candidates running for president just got a little bigger.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has joined the ranks of more than a dozen Republicans hoping to become the party's nominee for 2016. Christie became the governor of New Jersey in January 2010 after he defeated incumbent Governor Jon Corzine, a Democrat.

There has been lots of speculation around Christie's presidential ambitions for quite some time—Christie was seen as a potential candidate during the last election, and though he didn't end up running, he did deliver the keynote address at the Republican National Convention in 2012.

Matt Katz, a reporter for Takeaway co-producer WNYC and New Jersey Public Radio, has covered Chris Christie for years and joins us to discuss the announcement.
