Obama Visits Camden to Praise Police Efforts

Matt Katz | May 18, 2015

President Obama will be in Camden, N.J. on Monday afternoon to deliver a speech about policing in the wake of friction between officers and civilians around the country.

During his visit, the president is expected to praise the police department for its efforts at more progressive community policing.

Two years ago, the city department was disbanded and taken over by the newly created Camden County Police Department. Thanks to stingier employment contracts and start-up funds from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, there are more police officers on the ground and crime has been reduced. Christie takes credit for these improvements, but he'll be in New Hampshire giving a foreign policy speech during the president's visit.
