Mastering the Bridgegate Puzzle: How the Players Fit Together

Piecing together links between the key figures in the lane-closing scandal

For four days beginning September 9, two of the three approach lanes from Fort Lee, NJ onto the George Washington Bridge were closed, causing massive traffic jams during the morning rush hour. The Port Authority of NY and NJ, which operates the bridge, said the closures were part of a traffic study.

But as weeks passed, it became clear that the actions were actually a form of punishment dished out by aides to and allies of NJ Gov. Chris Christie because the Democratic mayor had refused to endorse Christie's re-election.

On May 1, two senior members of the PANY/NJ and the Christie administration were indicted and another senior PA official pled guilty in connection with the incident.

This map explores the major players in the scandal that has come to be known as Bridgegate. Click on an individual or organization to find out more about it. You can also zoom in and out of the map using the controls on the upper right.
