A new report – this time in the Wall Street Journal, which said yesterday that federal corruption charges could be lodged against him as early as this week – got pretty much the same response from U.S .Sen. Bob Menendez.
“I’ll say the same thing I said two weeks ago when there was a different press report,” declared the New Jersey Democrat, “and that is that I have always acted appropriately and legally.”
There was one new wrinkle. The WSJ report cited anonymous sources close to the investigation, which prompted Menendez to comment on Justice Department leaks:
“Leaks are in violation of the law. All of us who care about justice and the law should be concerned about where those leaks come from…”
