Interview with Cami Anderson: ‘I Have No Intentions of Resigning’

Embattled Newark schools superintendent defends “One Newark” reforms, suggests plan is misunderstood and misrepresented

Her plan for improving the city’s public schools is called “One Newark.”

But state-appointed schools Superintendent Cami Anderson’s initiative has proven to be divisive, prompting protests by parents and students, spurring demands by city school officials for a return to local control, and helping Ras Baraka -- a vocal opponent of Anderson’s policies and state control -- to win election in the recent mayoral race and to say he can no longer work with the embattled superintendent.

But Anderson is sticking to her message. She believes her “One Newark” restructuring plan can turn around Newark’s failed schools. And she says in an exclusive interview with NJTV, a partner of NJ Spotlight, that she will not give in to her critics and resign.
