Christie Finally Gets Asked a Bridgegate Question at Town Hall

Matt Katz | March 20, 2014

It took five town hall meetings, but New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was finally asked his first question about Bridgegate.

The man at the church in Flemington asked why the governor fired former deputy chief-of-staff Bridget Kelly for lying. Why wasn't she fired for doing something illegal by closing the lanes to the George Washington Bridge?

“If she told me the truth she would have gotten fired too," said Christie. But he refused to say whether the alleged actions were illegal, saying that’s up to federal prosecutors to decide.

Later, a woman said she felt sorry for him.

But Christie said he’s not throwing a pity party for himself, and no one else should either.

A group wearing T-shirts that collectively spelled out "BRIDGEGATE" weren’t called on to ask a question.
