This year, there are nine Olympians with some claim to New Jersey roots participating in the Sochi Olympics. They include two hockey players, two speedskaters, two women’s bobsledders, a figure skater, an alpine skier, and a member of the men’s skeleton team.

Felicia Zhang of Plainsboro is the female half of one of the pairs figure skaters for the U.S. She will skate in Sochi for the first time Tuesday night. Two professional hockey players originally hail from New Jersey -- John Carlson, who grew up in Colonia and plays for the NHL's Washington Capitals and James van Riemsdyk, who was born in Middletown and plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL.

Two men who were born the same year in Flemington and grew up elsewhere, Kyle Carr and Chris Creveling, are now competing together on the men’s speedskating team.

Jamie Greubel and Jazmine Fenlator are both pilots for the women’s bobsled team. Greubel hails from Princeton and attended the Hun School there. The state lists her as coming from Warren. Fenlator grew up in Wayne.
