Helping New Jersey Address Uncertainty and Change after Sandy
The Regional Plan Association's scenario-based report helps communities evaluate threats and build resiliency into their decisions
Hurricane Sandy provided a wakeup call to the government, residents, and policymakers of New Jersey and the rest of the region. Eight million people lost power; roads were washed away; tunnels were flooded; and thousands of homes and other structures were swept into the ocean.
The Regional Plan Association initiated an effort to help municipalities make reconstruction decisions that anticipate future conditions and build more resilient communities. The report also makes recommendations for post-storm decisions that prepare for climate change.
