District 21 encompasses 16 communities in Morris, Somerset and Union counties: Berkeley Heights, Bernards, Chatham Borough, Cranford, Far Hills, Garwood, Kenilworth, Long Hill, Mountainside, New Providence, Roselle Park, Springfield, Summit, Warren, Watchung and Westfield.
Voter registration is 25 percent Democratic and 28 percent Republican, with the most of the rest unaffiliated.
Three GOP incumbents are on the ballot. Seeking re-election to his Senate seat is Thomas Kean Jr. of Westfield. Kean is was first elected into the Assembly in 2001, became a part of the Senate in 2003, and has been Republican leader since 2008. Assemblyman Jon Bramnick of Westfield is an attorney who has served in the lower house since 2003 and also served on the Plainfield City Council in the 1980s. Assemblywoman Nancy Munoz of Summit was first elected in 2009.
Up against Kean for the Senate seat is Democrat Michael Komondy of Basking Ridge. Komondy unsuccessfully ran for Bernards Township Committee in 2012. Seeking the Assembly seats are Democratic challengers Norman Albert of Cranford, who also ran in 2009, and Jill Anne Lazare of Summit, an attorney.
