Group of New Jersey Sandy Survivors Starts to Outgrow its Grass Roots
'Stop FEMA Now' may be the message, but organization is beginning to take on larger issues
Stop FEMA Now is a textbook example of a grassroots organization -- with an online twist.
Launched as a Facebook page by George Kasimos, who kept it updated from the garage alongside his Sandy-flooded home in Toms River, NJ, the organization has gotten a taste of what it means to go viral.
This past Saturday it held gatherings in. The goal now is to take the group national.
And despite its name and original goal, Stop FEMA Now is targeting larger issues: repealing or delaying the flood insurance rate increases passed by Congress in 2012.
