New Jersey has received $5.5 billion in federal disaster relief for Sandy, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the bulk of it being the $3.5 billion in National Flood Insurance Program payments made on claims to date.
There has also been $810.5 million in Small Business Administration loans approved for homeowners, renters, and businesses and another $805 million in FEMA Public Assistance grants to state agencies, local communities, and nonprofits. An additional $409.2 million in FEMA grants has been distributed to individuals -- $352.4 million for housing assistance and $56.8 million for other needs.
FEMA has also completed 126,877 housing inspections.
