Podcast: The Outlook for New Teacher Evaluations

Will controversial new rating system really be ready for implementation this fall?

New Jersey’s public schools face a deadline of next fall to have a teacher-evaluation system in place that will include classroom observations and new measures of student performance.

NJ Spotlight’s John Mooney yesterday spoke with WHYY/Newsworks’ Alan Tu about the prospects for the new system that is being proposed by the Christie administration to set a specific formula for coming up with teacher grades.

The podcast delves into the early controversy around the new details, including the use of student test scores in grading some teachers. And with the state Department of Education now on tour presenting the system in public forums, Mooney discussed the chances that the system will be ready and in place by the fall.
