$9.60

New Jersey is an expensive place to go to the movies. At $9.60, the average adult ticket price is the highest in the country, according to Box Office Mojo, an online movie publication and box office reporting service.

The state has 1,103 screens in 160 movie theaters, according to the site. About a third of them, or 51, let customers buy tickets online.

Prices ranged from $5.00 to $15, with most tickets costing in the $10 range. The most expensive tickets listed were at the IMAX theater at the Tropicana hotel in Atlantic City.

For those on a tight budget who want to check out "The Hobbit," "Django Unchained," or "Les Miserables" this weekend, Midwest theaters might be a better bet. The average price of an adult ticket in Iowa is $5.91.
