State funding for the arts is not in vogue these days, as evidenced by New Jersey’s ranking of fourth in the country for its $20.7 million appropriations for arts programs in 2011, according to the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies. That sum resulted in $2.38 per New Jerseyan, a per capita appropriation only less than Minnesota, Hawaii, and Wyoming.
In terms of dollars, New Jersey ranked third in the country, behind New York’s $41.5 million and Minnesota’s $30 million.
