Some 23,000 people in New Jersey petitioned Gov. Chris Christie to sign a bill banning wastewater treatment facilities from accepting waste from hydraulic fracturing facilities. The process, also known as "fracking," extracts natural gas by pumping huge amounts of water and some chemicals into shale formations. Christie vetoed the bill on Friday.
