New Jersey’s solar industry is one of the country’s most diverse and vibrant, according to the U.S. Solar Energy Industries Association, (SEIA) totaling more than 300 companies at work throughout the value chain.

Garden State solar companies offer a full range of products and services, including manufacturing, installations, project development, financing and solar advocacy.

That’s not a surprise since the state installed the most capacity in the first quarter of 2012 -- 174 megawatts of solar energy -- and is second to only California in total installations. New Jersey’s 775 megawatts of energy is enough to power 107,000 homes.

The surge in the first quarter was due to 121 megawatts of commercial capacity, according to the report. This included the country’s largest array, which was installed this spring by Holt Logistics on the rooftop of its Gloucester Marine Terminal warehouse. The 9 megawatt project features more than 27,000 panels spread over 1.1 million square feet.
