The total number of housing units in New Jersey rose by 8,991 over the past year, according to new figures released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. The annual estimates, current as of July 2011, count the number of residential homes, apartments, mobile homes and other units considered separate living quarters. The bureau’s housing unit estimate for NJ totaled 3,562,553, an increase of just 0.3 percent from year-to-year.
