Alimony: a Touchy Subject That May Need a Tweak

A New Jersey group shares its concerns and frustrations with alimony.

Alimony -- never an easy topic for either partner -- needs to be tweaked and tuned to make it more fair, at least that's the opinion of members of New Jersey Alimony (NJAR). The group recently spoke with NJ Spotlight partner NewsWorks/WHYY in an open-ended discussion, Do Alimony Laws Need a Tweak.

Among the items discussed, "term limits" for alimony. Right now, a judge can award permanent alimony, though a marriage may have lasted as few as 10 years. Another consideration: greater flexibility in paying and renegotiating alimony in tough economic times.
