It only takes one rush hour on the New Jersey Turnpike to convince drivers to get an EZ-Pass, which may be one reason the penetration rate on the turnpike is so high, 79.7 percent. Indeed, the penetration rate has been above 70 percent since at least 2010, with the lowest month during that period 72.5 percent in July 2010.

EZ-Pass penetration on the Garden State Parkway is similarly high, at 75.5 percent. Historically, fewer cars on the parkway use EZ-Pass than on the turnpike.
