The real estate, rental and leasing industry is the largest in the state, at 17 percent, according to the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis, significantly more than the 13 percent nationally. Although government is the second-largest industry in the state, at 11 percent, that too diverges from the national average, which is 13 percent. The next two industries that make the Garden State’s top five, both at nine percent, are professional and technical services and finance and insurance. Rounding out the top five list is the healthcare industry, at eight percent.
