The number of customers that have participated in the state’s renewable energy program is 70,000, according to the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), which runs the program. The state has invested $1.3 billion in the program, mostly on solar energy incentives but also in wind and biomass technologies. As a result, New Jersey is second only to California in solar installations at 8,900. It is far behind other states in other clean energy technologies, however.
