The percentage of New Jersey students taking the SAT has been dropping in the past few years. It is down 12 percent, from 86 percent to 76 percent between the 2004-2005 and the 2008-2009 school year, according to New Jersey Kids Count 20ll. Sadly, that is much higher than the national average of 46 percent.
SAT scores in New Jersey have also dropped during this period. Math scores dipped from 517 to 513, while verbal scores tumbled from 503 to 496. Scores were higher nationally in 2008-2009: math scores were 515; verbal scores, 501.
