It probably doesn’t come as a major surprise to most commuters that 71.8 percent of workers get to work by driving alone in their cars. And according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, 42.5 percent of commuters leave their homes between 7 a.m. and 8:29 a.m. Only 30.6 percent leave between 8:30 a.m. and midnight.
Carpooling is not as popular as public transportation: 9.1 percent of workers carpool, while 10.4 percent use public transit of some sort. More people work at home (3.4 percent) than walk to work (3.3 percent). Very few bicycle to work (0.03 percent), while 1.6 percent say they take taxis, motorcycle or other means.
