State tax revenues from Atlantic City casino gambling are expected to drop to $311.6 million in fiscal year 2010—less than half of what they were in 2006. Competitive pressure from Pennsylvania slot parlors began in 2006: New Jersey’s tax revenues from casino gambling have been sliding ever since. Indeed, the Christie administration estimates that 2011 will see only $274.6 million in casino tax revenues after both Delaware and Pennsylvania launch new gaming businesses this year. Delaware has already approved table gaming at its raceways, but the real threat is expected to come from new Pennsylvania casinos, the first of which is slated to open in July.
