The number of accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike in 2009, according to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority was 6,975. That works out to 29.6 accidents per 1 million vehicles on the road, which was a slight dip from 2008. Not surprisingly, the road becomes more dangerous the more you are on it. The number of accidents per 100 million vehicle miles was 119, but that was the lowest number since 2001.
